Pilgrims Course Outline

OPTIONS AND CHOICES ON THE PILGRIMS SUMMER TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAMME

By Simon Marshall, Director of Training

"Well what shall I do at 3.30 when my main course finishes?" "Well from 4.00 – 5.30 I could go on a guided tour of historic Canterbury or attend a workshop 'English Through Art' or learn how to dance Salsa. It's difficult because I want to do all of them!" "It's the same between 8.00 and 10.00. There'll be a 'Drum Workshop', 'An introduction to Drama', 'Understanding English Prepositions', 'Teaching Very Advanced Students'... the list goes on".

"At least I know I am offered choices and don't have to fill my own time –unless I want to – from 3.30 to bedtime in a place I don't know".

These choices for extending the day way beyond the restrictions of an abrupt 3.30 finish is very much part of the unique and enriching Pilgrims experience. We wish for people to feel included throughout the day in the wonderful hilltop setting of the University of Kent in Canterbury. These afternoon / evening options – at no extra charge – are not mere lightweight additions, but a fertile and engaging range of alternatives which enhance the value of the main 9.00 – 3.30 course.

We try to balance the cerebral (e.g. Spoken Grammar) with the physical (e.g. Salsa dancing) so you can make a choice which suits your mood.

Renowned and inspiring trainers such as Tessa Woodward, Mario Rinvolucri and Bonnie Tsai, along with a host of others, ensures that there is something for everyone.

You may go to bed tired at Pilgrims, but you won't go to bed bored!
