Letter 1

Dear Hanna,

(…) I might as well make use of this message to let you know that we are organizing the Symposium langues 2 in Sierre March 13-14, 2010. The first one took place in Sierre, at the professional school where I teach English April 19-20, 2008 and drew some 300 language teachers from all over Switzerland. Mario was one of the 2 key-note speakers and gave a workshop as well. He was joined by 30 some top-class presenters, mostly Swiss-based. The concept of the symposium remains the same - a two-day multilingual conference by and for language teachers. The key-words are: continuing education, networking, harmonization, brain-friendly learning, and having a good time. There will be 2 key-note speakers on Saturday, and one on Sunday and two 90-minute workshop slots on each day. There will also be an exhibition space which you at Pilgrims might be interested in using.

We would greatly appreciate any publicizing you could do for us. We are actively recruiting presenters and are open to suggestions on presenters and whatever else - perhaps you yourself would be interested in presenting. In which case I ask you to send a brief description of the workshop (s) you propose and a little bio-data.

All the best,
Leonard Adkins, HES-SO Valais / Wallis
Sierre, Switzerland

Hi Hania,

Thanks for getting back to me: I know somewhere I have some old mails from you, but it is easier for me to make contact through the mag, and who knows... people move on. I wonder if there is a reason why you don't have a 'contact us' link. Do you NOT want people to be able to contact you?

Letter 2 b

Hi there,

(…) as for contact … my e-mail address it is at the bottom of the editorial. other than that we have no other form of contact through the mag e-mail. You see a blog is nice but if offer the option people will expect a prompt reply in HLT there is no permanent staff and I edit it as a part time job, very part time… but I will consider your suggestion for sure in the future when we have more staff (…)

Many greetings
Hania

Letter 2 c

Hania you have a very good reason for not putting your mail address. I am very appreciative of what you are doing... and understand that you, like many of us, are working within limitations!

Letter 3

Dear Hania,

Thank you for the new issue of magazine. I found it quite useful for my teaching. I'd really like to come to the Conference, but I'm afraid I don't have enough money. Accommodation and travel costs are not that much as Conference fee. There’s suggestion for funding which is just for the countries of EU and Croatia isn't member. So I don't see any option. The list of speakers is quite impressive, and some of them were guests here in Croatia on our teacher's conferences where I had the opportunity to listen to and meet. However, this would be different! I hope to get some articles about the conference in the next issues of magazine.

With kindest regards,
Dragana Matkovic

Dear Hanna,

(…) Is HLT gently moving towards being a rather Uni-focussed mag? Seems primary is little catered for? I can see why.......the unis are full of a chattering class that have to chatter publicly.........

This last issue has some practical stuff but not a great mass of it.......

Is the Mag going rather uni-focused is a question that came up in conversation with Chaz Pugliese at Pilgrims.

Maybe I need to read HLT more broadly and not just focus on the last issue.

Maybe some primary stuff could be got from people like Eleanor Watts, Wendy, Stefania, Gilgliola, Sharka etc....

Mario

Letter 4 b

Hi Mario

I am doing what I can but I rely on what authors send me
I will make sure there is more primary stuff, well spotted
See next issue
As for finding contributor’s among Pilgrims trainers…
Not all Pilgrims trainers are willing or have the time to write for HLT
You have been there as the previous editor. I remember well how sometimes I used to worm out of contributing to HLT, when you asked...

Greetings
Hania

Letter 5

Dear Hania,

(…) Thank you for informing me of the new issue of HLT magazine. I really enjoy reading this magazine and introduced it to my colleagues in Taiwan. Although many of my colleagues start knowing this magazine, they told me that they love to use it frequently and regularly because they consider it brilliant and useful.

I'll be in touch.

Best wishes,
Wei Wei
