Background

This poem comes from Martina, a Swiss student, who recently studied at Harven School.

The poem was written after the very good lesson on poetry in the ‘Just Right - upper intermediate’ book. Martina said she hadn't read, let alone written, any poems since she was at school many years ago but she rose to the challenge and appeared to enjoy playing with the words.

Poem

In the middle of the Alps

Deep green fields, colourful dabbed by flowers
wind, caressing them softly with its strong hands.
Penetrating silence.
Far away a babbling brook
running fast, happy jumping over pebbles
coming down from sun-stoned mountains,
deadly attractive and friendly cold,
powdered with sharp sparkling snow.
Too wonderful to go - too frightening to stay.
