Graduation Day
Rainy Day
Inner Peace
Great Mystery

Graduation Day

As we sit next to each other,
wearing our graduation caps and shining gowns,
our minds wander back to past school memories.
We remember our first day of kindergarten,
when barely four
our moms held our hand tight
reluctant to let us go,
not ready yet to see us grow.
Emotional tears well in our eyes,
as we hear our names being called,
and as we walk proudly down the aisle,
we’re aware that a new life awaits us now.
We’re all grown-up,
each of us with a set of goals in mind,
each of us looking lost amidst the crowd.
We hope our lives won’t change much
and that our friends will keep in touch.

Rainy Day

Sullen and stormy clouds
gathered over the edge of the forest,
looking like fiery ghosts,
weighing the sky down
with their white-grey mass.
Heavy rain poured down madly,
flooding fields and ponds,
while the ancient maple trees,
lined along the banks of the lake,
wept silently in the deepening gloom,
mourning the loss of their beloved leaves.
The sky became heavier still,
as it showered down
thousands of lumpy hailstones,
which gleamed like diamonds
in the dimness of the ending day.
As night approached,
the mad grating of the crows
met the sound of the roaring wind,
scaring away all living things.
But then a new day came,
the rain stopped,
the cold and wet land
welcomed the sun's rays
which warmed up
the very essence of the earth.

Inner Peace

As we close our eyes and ears,
to escape this restless world,
and we lock ourselves deep within,
we enter that inner mental space
where peace and silence prevail.
Worries and anxieties disappear
as we drift deeper still,
into a peaceful slumber.
Colours, sounds and smells become a blur,
enabling us to perceive
the vast expanse of beauty and love
residing within each of us.
Past events unfold in our minds,
reminding us of moments and places long gone,
countless emotions wash through our bodies and souls,
connecting us with the natural and spiritual world.

One Big Race

White, black, yellow and red,
different colours, different races.
We may come from different places,
we may speak different languages,
but we share the same heart
beneath our skin.
We may have different customs,
we may walk at different paces,
but we share those distinct features
which make us part of the same species.
God has created us all the same,
to be united as One big Race.
