Away from Hustle and Bustle… Phone Classes in Brazil
Susan Marcus is Company Services Manager of the Business Unit at The Club of the Cultura Inglesa in São Paulo, Brazil
Hustle and bustle, traffic, deadlines, business trips, conference calls, meetings, yet another presentation...first thing to do ...cancel my English class.
With this background in mind, the Phone class was designed. Classes lasting 25 minutes taken over the phone at the clients´ convenience.
No more traffic, rushing back and forth, and worst of all missing classes.
The idea of the phone class is to enable the client to have a flexible scheme whereby one can easily fit this into his/her daily affairs. The initial academic proposal was to offer a tool to maintain the language level already achieved and act as a support to clients who need to negotiate on the phone.
What we found out, now concluding our 55 term, is that the course not only helped develop the clients´ vocabulary but aided in gaining confidence when having to deal with conference calls and using the language under pressure.
This product is environmentally friendly - no paper involved. The client receives his package via email, and he calls us to schedule his class with two days advance.
At the requested time, we have a teacher waiting for his call. All the control is done online, and client satisfaction has been quite high. After his class he is challenged with a post call assignment to be sent to our email.
The success of this mode of classes has been basically the ease of scheduling classes irrespective of geographical barriers.
Having solved the time and geographical barriers are the main operational benefits this mode offers. There is also the confidence boost which guarantees clients renew their contracts.
