Perception Poem

Alan Broomhead, Oise School,Boston, Mass. US

I big the elephant
And small the fly
I green the valley
And blue the sky
The cheetah I fast
And the snail I slow
I transparent the glass
And color the rainbow
I beautiful you
And your person I my
All these things I uncertain
For what denotes I?

Alan writes: Colors don't reside in things but in the way the brain codes different wavelengths of light. " the fly is small" and " the elephant is big" don't describe what is out there but only our perception of it, based on our own size.
"George is stupid" should be " I stupid George". Such judgements tell us more about the speaker's mind than than about "George".
It just goes to show how badly our language is constructed to deal with perceptions and Judgements.
