The Pilgrims Scholarship

Easter Courses at Pilgrims in Canterbury, spring 2014
This scholarship is funded by Pilgrims to enable a practising teacher or teacher trainer to lead a talk or workshop at the IATEFL annual conference for the first time and to be published in the Teacher Trainer Journal (www.tttjournal.co.uk) or Humanising Language Teaching (old.hltmag.co.uk). Since its founding Pilgrims has adopted humanistic approaches following the work of Carl Rogers in which the person is at the centre of the learning and teaching experience.
It is not necessary to be an IATEFL member to apply.
The award consists of:
- a conference registration
- £750 towards accommodation and travel costs
- a year’s membership to IATEFL
To qualify you must:
- be a practising teacher or teacher trainer who has recently explored a person centred approach or approaches in English language teaching or teacher training
- be a first time speaker at the IATEFL Conference
- agree to submit by September 2014 an article of between 500 and 600 words reflecting on your training session
To be considered you must submit:
- a 400-500 word summary of how you have incorporated a person centred approach into your teaching or teacher training
- a brief curriculum vitae (2 sides A4 maximum)
- a passport sized photo (for inclusion in the conference programme if you win)
- a speaker proposal

If you are not a member of IATEFL please complete the special speaker registration form downloadable from http://www.iatefl.org/scholarships/page as you will not be able to submit on line without a valid membership number. If you are the winner of this scholarship, a year's membership is paid for by the scholarship as all presenters must be members of IATEFL.
The submission date is 22nd August 2013. You will be informed about the award in mid-October.

Over the last 6 weeks we've enjoyed the company of around 400 teachers who want to MAKE A DIFFERENCE to the next generation of learners. They attended our Pilgrims summer teacher training courses which are run at the University of Kent in Canterbury.
We are looking forward to working with more teachers in August in Canterbury and in Izmir, Turkey. In cooperation with SeltAcademy and hosted by Gediz University in Izmir, Turkey, we are running a full selection of the famous ‘hill-top courses’ outside the UK for the first time. Our aim is to attract teachers from the region to share ideas and best practice while working with our Pilgrims Teacher Training team.

For those of you who did not get a chance to sign up for a course this summer and come to Canterbury, it’s almost time to think which Pilgrims Easter Teacher Training Course to choose and apply for your EU Funding. The grant covers your travel expenses, accommodation and the course fee.
