Message from Magdalena Miśkiewicz, Poland

The Pilgrims teacher training course with Hania Kryszewska was an unforgettable and invaluable step in my development as a teacher. I’ve been using ideas that Hania shared with us during the course since the beginning of October and with every week I cannot believe how many of them have turned out successful and helped me to make my teaching even more interesting for both my students and myself! Thanks to my holidays with Pilgrims teaching has become an even more enjoyable experience although I’ve always loved it!

Setting up a poem writing activity

I presented three poems which are based on first syllable similarity. We anlysed the grain of the text and how important the first syllable in each line is.

No sun - no moon!

No morn - no noon -
No dawn - no dusk - no proper time of day.
No warmth, no cheerfulness, no healthful ease,
No comfortable feel in any member -

No shade, no shine, no butterflies, no bees,
No fruits, no flowers, no leaves, no birds! -

November!

No sun--no moon!
No morn--no noon!
No dawn--no dusk--no proper time of day--
No sky--no earthly view--
No distance looking blue--
No road--no street--no "t'other side this way"--
No end to any Row--
No indications where the Crescents go--
No top to any steeple--
No recognitions of familiar people--
No courtesies for showing 'em--
No knowing 'em!
No traveling at all--no locomotion--
No inkling of the way--no notion--
"No go" by land or ocean--
No mail--no post--
No news from any foreign coast--
No Park, no Ring, no afternoon gentility--
No company--no nobility--
No warmth, no cheerfulness, no healthful ease,
No comfortable feel in any member--
No shade, no shine, no butterflies, no bees,
No fruits, no flowers, no leaves, no birds--
November!

Our summer Pilgrims poems

We wrote our poems about the Pilgrims experience. The idea was that each line would start with JU for July; this is when the advanced course took place. The poems capture the spirit of the unique time we experienced together.
