New Ideas From “Tune into English”

Fergal Kavanagh, Italy

The first of this month’s additions to the Downloadable Worksheets section of the Teachers’ Area of www.tuneintoenglish.com may be the ideal motivator for change this year - Wake Up Everybody by John Legend & The Roots, submitted by Prof. Elena Salvetti, Breno (BS), looks at how we can make the world a better place.

The second addition is the wonderful The Cat Came Back by Fred Penner, sent in by Prof. Silvana Fazio from Sondrio and Prof. Margaret Mower from Prato. Your students will love this opportunity to revise the Past Simple.

The 27th January is the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, and Prof. Mena Bianco’s contribution of Yellow Triangle by Christy Moore gives you and your students a chance to reflect on and to discuss this horrific period in world history.

Thank you to all teachers who have submitted worksheets – I look forward to receiving your contributions in the future.

The Tune Into English Roadshow is about to recommence its tour, and still has a few dates available after Easter - I look forward to meeting you and your students. You can see a large selection of videos and photographs from over four years of the Roadshow on facebook – there is a link on the home page of the Tune Into English website.

You can sing along with the UK Top 10 Charts on the Speak Up site - updated weekly; there is a link on the Tune Home page too. The Karaoke page of Tune Into English now features over 7,200 songs.

In an exciting new collaboration with TSA, Tune Into English now offers a Summer English Academy in the UK, featuring a combination of English language in the mornings and a practical, artistic academy (Rock, Dance, Drama) in the afternoon. The course finishes with a final concert to show off the work that has taken place. You can see full details by following the link on the homepage of www.tuneintoenglish.com.
