Feelings
This simple exercise will have the learners explore feelings. Feelings are one factor affecting attention.
Level: Elementary upwards
Skills: Speaking, writing
Procedure:
1. Ask your learners to draw a list of feelings.
2. Next ask them to cross out the ones they do not remember having experienced lately (a vague term: two weeks, one month?)
3. Now invite them to write sentences based on the feelings they remember having experienced lately. Allow some time for this, then encourage them to talk about the circumstances, when they experienced these feelings.
4. Next ask the learners to focus on those feelings experienced in class that day and write about them.
5. Now dictate a list of words, ask your learners to write down what feelings each of the words brings to mind (words I've read out: Alaska, cathedral, roller-skating, dancing, ice-cream, traveling, cooking)
6. Have them compare in pairs
7. Finally dictate the adjectives below and have them note down what mental associations are triggered by these: delightful, disgusting, proud, peaceful, irritating, thoughtful, serene, outrageous.
