READERS' LETTERS

Editorial
I am very sorry about this especially that we trust our contributors. Paloma ( the host editor) and myself took action and with Richard’s permission we have left the article in HLT and corrected the name. But now it means you can find the same article in the places on the website. We sincerely apologize for the situation. I hope this will never happen again.

Dear Hania Kryszewska,

I have just come across your online journal. I think it is a nicely presented journal with many interesting articles. May I ask, is the journal considered to be "refereed"?

Please note HLT is a free magazine so authors get no fee nor it is peer reviewed

yet there is the satisfaction of having your article published in a good company of passionate people

Letter 2

Dear Hania,

Hello there. I am very interested in learning more about HLT and believe that the essence of what I am doing in ELT is becoming more and more human. I really appreciate so much universal principles that can be applied in the classroom that mirror age-old spiritual insight, and that correspond directly with scientific principles of Emotional Intelligence, Multiple Intelligences, and Mindfulness practices, among other areas of research. I realize that this is a leading edge of not only ELT, but the evolution of Western Civilization in general, and that ELT can and will play its role. It's a great pleasure to be a part of that, actually.

In much warmth and appreciation for your work,

Greg Brooks-English

I made an interesting discovery. It appears that the article "Teen Angst: Establishing and Maintaining Discipline in the Classroom" by Jesús Emmanuel Somilleda Figueroa, Mexico, which appeared in your November 2007 issue, was actually copied from the British Council website.

Here's the version on HLT:

old.hltmag.co.uk/nov07/stud01.htm

And here's the British Council article:

www.teachingenglish.org.uk/think/methodology/teen_angst.shtml

Unless Richard Frost changed his name and moved to Mexico, this looks like a case of plagiarism.

Letter 4

Dear Hania

I sent an email some days ago advising you that one of your authors has submitted the same article to me and that it would be appearing in the May issue of ETP. I was quite concerned when I got notification that it was published in HLT. The article is published in the May edition of ETP and if I'd known that it was being sent to other publishers, I would never have touched it. I tried to get the May edition back from the printers in order to pull the article, but I was too late. I hope this never happens again. ETP has a policy of not publishing articles that have been published elsewhere.

With best wishes

Helena Gomm
