Peace was lighted in Narowal

Muhammad Iqbal, Pakistan

Muhammad Iqbal is an English Instructor in Government Vocational Training Institute Narowal, Pakistan working for poverty alleviation and rehabilitation of the poor in Punjab. He holds a masters degree in English Language and Literature from Punjab University Lahore, Bachelor of Education and a Certificate in French. Writes poetry in Urdu, Punjabe, Persian and English. After the earthquake in Pakistan he started to write poetry for humanising children because he felt the world direly needs humanistic generations when disasters are increasing double and triple in the world. He is also a membership officer of IATEFL GISIG Committee. E-mail: muhammadiqbal722@hotmail.com

A number of people gathered at NGOs network office in the city Narowal and they announced to promote peace. The participants were Muslims of many sects and Christians. The important political personalities and journalists who spoke against the current steam of terrorism were also present there. Mr. Hafeez ullah a senior journalist maintained that terrorists are not from Muslim community who killed women like Benazir. Ex- MNA begum refit Javid added Islam condemns terrorism because according to Islam the killing of one person is the killing of all humanity. Padhri (priest) Zahoor and father Mushtaq explored that terrorism is very harmful for the country and other nations. They quoted biblical references for Peace. The gathering was arranged by Interfaith Peace Committee of Narowal city in Pakistan. I was invited as a peace poet to participate and I read the following poem to the participants to emphasize the importance of dialogue.

A CAT AND MOUSE

In her house

A cat with mouse

Often did fight

Day and night

The mouse was weak

How did speak

Oh, dear cat

Let s have a chat

Isn’t it right?

Talk ends fight

Dialogue brakes

The battle of cakes
