Update on the C-Group Scholarship
One of the items discussed at the recent C-Group meeting during the IATEFL Conference was the C-Group scholarship.
The C-Group scholarship was set up to enable teachers to participate in the IATEFL Annual conference. We set the amount of the scholarship at £1500.
In the first year (2016) we raised the money by crowd-funding (though the crowd was quite small!). The scholar selected was Rokhatoy Boltaeva from Uzbekistan. In 2017, a single, generous sponsor donated the whole sum. The scholar selected was Khemraj Sharma from Nepal. In 2018, another, equally generous sponsor donated the whole sum again. This year’s scholar was Sikha Gurung, also from Nepal.
We do not have a single sponsor for 2019, so we urgently need to raise the money through crowd-funding again. Some members of the group have already donated very generously but so far we have only raised about £400, so we need to find £1100 to reach our target.
Some additional information about the scholarship which you might wish to consider:
- As is clear from the list of winners so far, the scholarship helps teachers who are genuinely unable to afford the conference otherwise. Participation in IATEFL can be a real life-changing experience in their development path.
- Applications are carefully vetted and assessed by a small committee of members of the C-Group.
- We are not asking for large sums of money. If a large number of people were to pay as little as £10 each we would be able to reach our target quite easily. £10 = about 5 cups of coffee in the UK, so the financial burden is not large.
The procedure for contributing to the C group scholarship fund is simple. All you need to do is go to the following page: https://secure.iatefl. org/onl/donate.php
and scroll down to the last scholarship on the list – The C-Group Scholarship. You don’t have to log in – which means you do not have to be a member of IATEFL in order to donate.
We hope you will be able to help the C-Group in this practical way, and help to further the development of a deserving teacher. Many thanks in advance!
