LETTERS AND WORDS RACE

Level: beginner/intermediate
Materials: - one alphabet with red cards / one alphabet with blue cards
- list of 11 words taken from previous lesson
Time: 30 min.
Focus: vocabulary/spelling

This activity can be used as a warm-up activity in the morning, after a break or at the end of the day.

Procedure

Divide the class into two groups: one playing with the red cards and the other with the blue cards. Place the cards on the ground.
Shout a word from the list. At that moment a student from each group gets up, looks for the first letter of the word in his colurand holds it in front of his group.
Before the next student can get up and take the second letter, the first one must sit down.
The game continues until the word is spelt correctly.
The winner is the fastest.

Remarks: as a follow-up activity ask the students to make pairs and to take a sheet of paper.
They must remember and write the words alphabetically.
Correction on the blackboard.
