Lesson outlines

My headlines, your stories ( Secondary and adult)

Cécile Marit, I.E.P.S.C.F.- Uccle, Belgium

Level: intermediate/ upper-intermediate
Time: 30-40 minutes
Language functions: asking questions, narrating events, reporting, comparing
Materials: copies of a text
Preparation: selection of a text

Choose a text telling a story or an anecdote. It should not be too long (newspaper story e.g.) Choose a level that suits your group.
The teacher writes the title of the text (headline) on the blackboard. The students ask yes/no questions to discover what it is about. When they think they know enough, they form small groups and write the story. Special attention should be paid to correct use of the tenses, as well in the spoken as in the written exercise. The texts are either read by their authors, or displayed on the walls of the class.
They then compare their versions with the original story and modify them if need be.
