READERS' LETTERS

Letter 1

Hi Ms. Kryszewska,

I hope you are well. Two weeks ago, I reached out and shared the TOEFL guide our in-house writers Prof. Dennis Masino and Jackie Giuliano, Ph.D. wrote. You were probably busy then. I hope today is a good day to reach you.

You can find the guide here: How to pass the TOEFL

This guide, along with the other guides and resources we published, have been approved and used by many Universities including the following:

  • Stanford University
  • Texas State University
  • Indiana University of Pennsylvania
  • Southern Connecticut State University

If you could take 2 minutes to review our resources, I am sure you will see how valuable this would be to someone who is planning on taking the exam.

If you like what we built, we would be delighted if you would consider including our resources on your page here: http://hltmag.co.uk/feb09/sart01.htm

Thank you.

Diana

To celebrate the middle of the week, I have a tragic 'Videotelling' love story for you. It is titled Left on the Shelf

The story is featured in this month's issue of English Teaching Professional as part of a film-making competition for students.

Hello Hania

Here is me videotelling a short story which involves a mystery animal that likes to eat whole watermelons.

Click here to see the video on YouTube

This was filmed at the 3rd ELT Conference in Oran last weekend. You could tell the story in your own classroom to introduce countable and uncountable nouns. (Note that the video has subtitles.) You may also want to meet the protagonists and you can do so here.

Have a great week!

Jamie :) Keddie

(…) By the way, I also co-edited the short story collection 'Teacher Stories: Stories from the Edges of Language Teaching' with my wife Theresa Gorman - this project might appeal to your readers, as we tried to create a place where 'teachers tell their own stories'.

There are six stories from working language teachers, available for free from Smashwords here. The Teacher Stories website is here also.

Thanks for taking the time to interview 'At Work' - it's much appreciated.

best regards,

Paul Walsh

Exactly one year after the publication of my first book, "I was a happy man, then one day I came across laughter yoga" my second book has come out!

It's called Learning English through the mind and the body -50 simple steps to improve your English. It's a MUST for all serious learners of English and HIGHLY RECOMMENDABLE for teachers. All the tips have been tried and tested, either by my students or by me as a learner!

It can be used as a text book, resource book, hand book or whatever you want.

It is different from a traditional course book, in that the tips given are real activities, not artificial theories. There is no gap-filling or multiple choice exercises. It focuses on at least NINE SKILLS that students need: reading, writing, speaking, listening, vocabulary, non-verbal communication, pronunciation, intonation and cultural awareness.

I have kept the price down to an affordable £8.

Have a look at the link on Amazon. Apart from details of the book, you can look inside, see the chapter contents, the introduction and how the book is structured.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1516942957

I look forward to receiving feedback from those of you who decide to use it and if anything in the instructions is not clear, feel free to get in touch with me. I will be happy to assist you.

Best regards

Danny

On CONFIDENCE

When in yourself you believe
and a person or institution you trust
your conviction you achieve
and your self-confidence is robust

Confidence should reflect a moral and ethical conscience
Confidence should lead to permanence
Confidence should build independence
Confidence should dignify human presence
