Pilgrims Overseas Workshops
Mandy Briggs and Mario Rinvolucri
We are well aware that our hope that the whole of the EFL teaching world should come and do two week up-date courses on our Canterbury, UK, Hilltop campus is cloud cuckoo land! We realise that we need to reach out to the profession in as many ways as possible.
This is why we publish this webzine, accessed by around 1500 people each day of the year.
This is why we publish The Teacher Trainer, edited by IATEFL's current president, Tessa Woodward, to feed the apex of the profession.
This is why we work hard creating innovative teacher resourcebooks to feed the next generation of teachers and their mentors, the next generation of coursebook writers.
And finally this is why we offer to send a teacher trainer to work with your colleague
group wherever you may be.
We work with ministries, in places like Greenland and Luxembourg.
We work with teacher groups where the participants pay for the course individually, out of their own pockets: this acadamic year we have worked in this way in Cuneo. Italy and Samara, Russia
We work with the British Council, as happened this year in Amman, Jordan and Tripoli, Libya.
We work with publishers: we have a flourishing collaboration with Longman in Turkey and with Helbling Languages in Italy.
We work with Conference organisers- this year we have worked this way in Spain
( APIGA) and in Serbia.
If you would like to know some of the topics we could offer to you group, please have a look at the Workshop list, at the end of this article.
Mario writes: I am thrilled by my involvement with Pilgrims Overseas Workshops as I feel this taking of ideas to where you live is part of the same enterprise as writing books to help you enrich your teaching. Some people learn best off the page, while others profit more from experiencing exercises directly, as happens in workshops.
Mandy writes: I really like my job talking to people round Europe and round the world as it has, over the past four years, expanded my horizons. I think I understand
how other cultures work much more than I used to when my focus was mainly on my family and my own area; East Kent. It's fun when I get to know a workshop host and
they ask me to visit them in their home place! Yes, I like this job!
