Thoughts addressed to Students from Before

general and adult

by Cecile Marit, Belgium

These are some thoughts that passed by, about you and me:

Teaching/learning:

  • To learn, to teach – is there a fundamental difference ?- a language is to go to an island, far away. There is no way to know if you'll ever reach the shore.
  • You learnt language while I taught communication, while I learnt opening frontiers while you taught ... And in another time, another world it was the other way around.
  • To learn ... and to teach is a quest for otherness.
  • There is always an island somewhere on the horizon. If we want to reach it we ought to cast off ……

    Feelings :

  • You made me feel peaceful and angry, powerful and powerless, happy and sad, enthusiastic and desperate, satisfied and unsatisfied..... You always made me feel.
  • My moments of brightness were always a gift from you, just like your moments of brightness also were mine... And we all knew or felt that was how it was.

    Knowledge:

  • What we think we know because we can say it ? Or what we know that we know even though we have no words for it ? Or what we have consciously learnt or read ? Or what we have experienced or shared ?

    Transmision

  • I freely give you all I have learnt, hoping you'll go a litlle bit further than I ever will and yet fully conscious that you might not want to accept this, that you might want to go your own way.

    Memories :

  • At the brink of consciousness, I remember now the words but not the voices ; I remember the warmth but not the names, the smiles but not the faces. I remember you all ... in a patchwork of smiles, moments and words.

Here it is, dears ones, thoughts abouts you and me. You know why ? Not sure….

    Cécile
