Humanising Language Teaching Humanising Grammar and CorrectionYour Webzine, Humanising Language Teaching and Pilgrims are combining to invite you to a special course in the first week of September
at The University of Kent at Canterbury
The course will be taught by HLT writers whose work you already know well: The main course tutor will be: Mario Rinvolucri, editor of HLT, author of Grammar Games and co-author of More Grammar Games, (both with Cambridge University Press). Other contributors will be: Michael Rundell (Ideas from the Corpora) Seth Lindstromberg (Seth Column) Sheelagh Deller (of using-Language-1 fame) Simon Marshall (writer of several articles) CORE COURSE 09.00 – 15.30 (with lunch and morning coffee breaks) Content: The course will concentrate on three areas and will be intensely practical. 1. New understandings and descriptions of grammar created by the corpus linguists 2. Practical exercises for teaching Grammar, grouped in these areas:
Grammar through thinking about it Grammar and meaning L1/L2 grammars contrasted Affective exercises for working on grammar Specific Exercises for teaching the new discoveries 3. An in-depth look at correction:
Sibling correction Parental correction Zero correction LATE AFTERNOON/EVENING PROGRAMME After the 15.30 –16.00 tea break you will join the rich Pilgrims late afternoon (16.00-17.30) and evening (20.00-21.30) seminar and workshop options programme – Monday, Tuesday, Thursday afternoon, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday evening.
