Review of „Grammatikalische Liebeslieder“ by Werner Bönzli

Karolina Haase, Poland

„Grammatikalische Liebeslieder“ is a set of German love songs created by Werner Bönzli for the students to learn some German grammatical structures. Werner Bönzli is an artist who sings and plays a variety instruments like the accordion, double bass, piano or guitar.

Each song consists of lines which concern a specific part of German grammar which often repeat or are similar which makes the grammar structure easier to memorise and more understandable. Moreover, the author of the lyrics creates sentences in a funny and creative way which makes the listener more interested in reading such a text rather than a typical text in a German coursebook. However, singing Bönzli’s songs is less absorbing than reading the lyrics because the author creates a monotonous atmosphere and very often sings very slowly and in an uninteresting way.

Despite this a little boring form of the presented songs, „Grammatikalische Liebeslieder“ written by Werner Bönzli are worth a listen because of the outstanding texts. It is quite an entertaining album and highly educational.
