Ten Lesson Plans for Primary Language Teaching

Henk van Oort, Netherlands

If this article interests you, Pilgrims offers courses in this area. Click here for more information.

[ Editorial note: Henk van Oort, an inspired primary school teacher and teacher trainer from Holland, whose work is steeped in the theories and practicalities of the Waldorf Movement ( Steiner) , here presents a set of ten exercises well-tested in his own classroom and those of many others. If you teach teenagers or adults, these lesson plans may be of huge interest to you, as they enshrine a number of startling useful principles:

    brevity
    movement
    fun
    use of drama.

My suggestion is that if you teach adult evening classes short exercises may be helpful, it may be useful to get your pensioners up and gently moving, while fun is something for all ages.
If you agree with Howard Gardner, that people learn best through work in a variety of their intelligences, then these ten activities will make good reading. HLT will be presenting more of Henk's "primary" work through 2003.]
